Our Mission
We strive to be brave Christians, dedicated to doing justice in Honduras and to inspiring others around the world to seek justice in their own contexts. To do this, we:
Collaborate with, learn from, and advocate alongside our partner organization ASJ-Honduras to promote peace, justice, and the transformation of society and government in Honduras.
Share our experience in Honduras with communities of justice seekers in order to learn together and advance best practices in justice work worldwide.
Challenge and inspire Christians to live out the Biblical call to do justice and to effect change in their own communities.
As Christians, we believe that we are called to do justice, which means standing up against violence and corruption and defending the oppressed and marginalized. Read more about the Biblical call to justice.
ASJ was founded by a small group of Hondurans and North Americans who wanted to promote justice for the most poor and vulnerable. Today, we’ve grown to be one of the leading organizations fighting for justice in Honduras. Read more about the history of ASJ.
ASJ (formerly known as AJS) changed our name in 2021 as part of our shared commitment to seeking justice alongside our Honduran partner. Learn more about our name change and our partnership.

Committed to Transparency
Relationship between ASJ-Canada, ASJ-Honduras and ASJ-US
ASJ-Honduras, ASJ-US, and ASJ-Canada together comprise the family of ASJ organizations. We have a legal joint venture agreement between our three organizations that governs how we work together. However, in 2023, we also agreed to sign a Covenant of Cooperation. The legal agreement has often been described as our legal marriage contract, while the Covenant has been described as our marriage vows--the promises we’ve made to each other for how we will mutually support each other. The Covenant beautifully articulates this relationship:
"To further express our commitment to each other, we have come together in July 2023, in the midst of celebrating the 25th anniversary of ASJ-Honduras, to develop a covenant of cooperation. This covenant is intended to guide us as we seek to be in intentional and meaningful relationships with each other.
"We are three distinct and unique organizations from three distinct and unique countries. We have different supporting communities. We have different levels and areas of expertise, experience, knowledge, and capacity. We have different ways of working towards our shared vision, in accordance with the laws and practices of our countries. The unique strengths of each organization make them successful, and our differences complement each other as we work together towards our shared vision.
"We honor the lead role of ASJ-Honduras in embodying the vision of a more just society through its activities, projects, and programs in Honduras. ASJ-Honduras’ experience and expertise in building a more just society, deep cultural understanding of Honduras, and commitment to live out its mission are critical to the success of this collective work. We also honor the roles of ASJ-US and ASJ-Canada in amplifying and encouraging this work and in bringing Americans and Canadians along for the journey. We know that being brave Christians in the face of injustice is not always easy, but that doing so together lightens the burden. We also acknowledge that for ASJ-Honduras, being in a relationship with ASJ-US and ASJ-Canada encourages and motivates the staff and offers a layer of protection over the staff and work. We need each other to achieve our vision."
