Nonprofits Fighting Violence and Injustice in Honduras
Violence and injustice remain daily threats in Honduras—from gang activity and extortion to gender-based violence and impunity in the justice system. But ASJ is working to change that. As a Christian nonprofit committed to reform, we support victims, push for safer communities, and hold public institutions accountable. Through community-based prevention efforts, police reform advocacy, and legal action, ASJ helps create a Honduras where justice and peace are possible.
What types of violence are most common in Honduras?
Honduras faces high levels of gang violence, drug trafficking, domestic abuse, extortion, and targeted killings—especially in urban areas. These issues are made worse by weak legal enforcement and systemic corruption. Only 24% of homicide cases are investigated, while only 13% reach a conviction.
How does ASJ help reduce violence in communities?
ASJ supports programs that prevent violence before it starts—through community engagement, public education, and data-driven policy reform. We also work with police departments to improve professionalism and accountability.
What makes ASJ’s approach different from other nonprofits?
ASJ combines legal advocacy, grassroots partnerships, and faith-based leadership to address root causes—not just symptoms. We work inside systems to push reform while defending the rights of victims and vulnerable populations.
We strive to be brave Christians, dedicated to doing justice in Honduras and to inspiring others around the world to seek justice in their own contexts.
In Honduras
We work together with our partner organization ASJ-Honduras as they seek justice, work for peace, and lead systemic reform in Honduras.
Written by ASJ Co-Founder Kurt Ver Beek and Christian philosopher Nicholas Wolterstorff, Call for Justice draws on stories from Honduras to illustrate what it means to do justice. It provides a practical and inspiring guide to seeking justice in our everyday lives.
As a Justice Partner, you are part of a committed group of supporters who give monthly to sustain the work of justice. Justice Partners are a community of over 285 passionate justice-seekers who believe that building a more just society in Honduras is possible.
